A hero goes missing

The adventure started in Bogenhafen. The crew made their way north to Marienstein where Lindenberg went missing. After asking about the town they found out that Lindenberg had been lying to them about his background and motivations for leaving and they tracked his whereabouts to Altdorf. Their only lead was a signet ring found in Lindenberg’s home.

Our group found Altdorf to be in a state of disorder. The stevedores had rebelled against the draconian treatment of their mercantile masters and under the leadership of Theophil Garterfield had initiated a strike action.

The party followed up on the signet ring and found that it belonged to one of the several dozen officials in the Von Clausen Trading Co. The VCT Co. closed for business fifteen years ago due to the death of the Von Clausen family (in a house fire) and it’s assets were divided amongst the three major competitors of the industry which were the Heye Shipping Co and the respective Grellier and Golder Banks, in which the Heye Shipping Company took the lion-share of the business.

Overtime though the Golder Bank superseded the Heye Shipping Co. and is now the market leader in river based freight and logistics in Altdorf. The Golders treated their workers terribly and because of this their workers finally initiated a strike action over two weeks ago.

The strike now has attracted not only the Golder employees but employees from other companies and industries and over two thousand people have stopped work and are fighting for their rights. This makes the key members of the strike (such as Theophil Garterfield, Hov Borad, Hahn Hawthorn and Ilse Heye prime targets from would be hit-men hired by the affected industries or aristocratic nobles as a) they are disrupting trade and b)empowering the poor.

The party was given a lead by Hov Borad to question the noble and mercantile houses chiefly affected by the strike (the Heyes, Golders and Grelliers) and ask them more about the VC shipping Co to give them a better understanding on the history and hopefully the whereabouts of the missing party member Lindenberg Shulze.

Our party also found out that Hahn Hawthorn,Pierce’s brother, has been missing for over 24 hours and that he was last seen outside the Burley Griffon tavern in the Singelfingen district talking to some “shady looking characters”

Our session ended when the party made their way into the Singelfingen district and stripped two men nude, slit their throats and captured and stored a young boy in a large sack.

A difference of opinion and a pile of shit

Our session continued in Altdorf. After an altercation between our heroes on what to do with the small boy pierce had captured tensions were high. A clear division had occured within the group and threatened to undermine our heroes unity, with tempers checked our heroes made it to Grettles house and stayed the night. Unfortunately for Dorf and Tyrel they ate some of Grettles cooking, Pierce stood clear knowing full well the dangers of his sister-in-law’s sanitary habits, and our two adventurers caught a severe case of explosive diarrhea.

Unfortunately for Dorf and Tyrel nature called at an extremely innoportune time the next day which lead them to shit their pants in the middle of the Köningplatz infront of dozens of people, after an ego recharge and a new pair of trousers they decided to take a day off to recover from their illness. Pierce, who was completely healthy, spent the day drinking and gambling and narrowly missed a mugging with the help of the city guard.

The next morning the group awoke to find that Dorf had recovered quite well, he was still not cured but most of his symptons were gone, Tyrel on the other hand had soiled his pants yet again and was no better than yesterday.

The group headed to the Friedwang district to talk to the three shipping families involved in the dispute. Hear they met Hahn Golder who was the leader of the Golder bank in Altdorf Hahn answered the parties questions and offered them work through an associate of his named Mario. They also noted that the district was ran by private military, chiefly that of the Golder Bank.

The party then tried the Grellier estate but were ejected by the guards, they did learn that the Grellier Bank was a family business (just like the Golder and the Heye) and that Louis Grellier was the patriach.

Our group then headed to the Heye estate, they learnt that the Heyes were a burgher family and were not nobles and that was met with contempt with the community they live in. They spoke to Thaddeus (the steward) who told them that Kurt Heye was the founder of the bank but wasn’t available for conversation. Thaddeus asked the party to retrieve a necklace which Isolette (the youngest member of the Heye family) dropped down the lavatory.

The crew dropped down into the sewers, while it was depressing work they were being highly paid for the amount of effort required and set out with as much zeal as one could muster when tasked with sifting through human feces, along the way they met a jovial halfling by the name of Maggio Paddins and agreed to assist the party finding the necklace. The group made their way to the generalised location of the necklace but came across some sell swords dumping a body. After a quick scrap they defeated the bandits and discovered that the body was that of Pierce’s missing brother, Hahn Hawthorn who was a key player and part founder of the workers strike at the docks.

Pierce was visibly upset and with a heavy heart lifted the body of his brother on his back, Completely ignoring the filth that covered his brother’s lifeless body. This act of compassion temporarily redeemed Pierce in the eyes of his comrades, particular Dorf who was beginning to think that Pierce was a man without honour.

A History of Violence - Session 3
A new best friend or a new worst enemy?

The party continued where they left off, with the body of Hahn Hawthorn on their back, Maggio Paddins at their side and waist deep in the tepid sewers of Altdorf. They found Isolette’s missing necklace and gave the body of Hahn to the priests of Morr. During the night they also saw Theophil Garterfield to tell him of the fate of his friend. Theo asked the group to help with the strike when they weren’t busy and bade them farewell.

The next morning they returned Isolette’s necklace and met Kurt Heye and his wife, they discussed many things including the bad blood between Hahn Golder and the long deceased Otto Von Clausen and his daughter’s involvement in the strike.

The party then made their way to the docks and met Mario Rosseto who gave them a particularly vague job involving shifting “something” from “somewhere else” and putting it “somewhere” but this was to be done later in the afternoon. The group then decided to help with the strike and distributed fliers with Ilse Heye

Turns out the “something” they needed shifting was a body and that they needed to dump it in the river, the party were then mock arrested by Kurt Becker who offered them the choice of a murder conviction or spying on Mario Rosseto. The party agreed to the latter option and Kurt released them and told them to report to him what mario does.

Mario gave the group a second job where they acted as his body guards during a business deal. The deal went sour when Mario shot his rival Geshtapo Maciovelli in the face and after a bloody melee the party reigned supreme over the Maciovelli mercanaries. Mario was so impressed by the parties “enthusiasm” that he offered a bonus to their normal pay.

The true villians emerge...

The party started off the adventure seeing Hahn Golder as per Mario Rosseto’s suggestion. Hahn had a job for the party, he wanted him to protect his son-in-law Gottleib from a would be assassination attempt. His plan was to lure the assassins out and have the party and his security chief Ursel Forstner deal with the bandits, question one and fight out who is responsible. Problem was when they met Ursel she met the description of the woman who kidnapped Lindenberg.

The party escorted Gottleib and were ambushed, they defeated there foes but not before Pierce and Tyrel sustained some nasty injuries. Pierce’s efforts were particularly comical as he was severely out classed by a standard unknown merc by the name of Curly.

Dorf dragged his broken party to a Shallyan ward and left them there for the night while he discussed Mario’s illicit business deal with Kurt Becker. Kurt informed the party that there was a merchant ball on the following night and it would be a good chance to spy on Mario. Dorf agreed and picked up the rest of the party in the morning and saw Hahn Golder to collect their payment. Hahn offered the PC’s a new job where they were paid to tail a stage coach exiting to the ball, Hahn offered more money for them to kill the people in the stage coach. The party agreed.

The party then decided that they need to infiltrate the ball as servants and went about “acquiring” the uniform of some servants. They infiltrated the ball successfully and learnt that Louis Grellier planned the assassination of Gottleib, Mario’s daughter was married to Hahn Golder’s son and that Hahn Golder orchestrated the kidnapping of Lindenberg.

After the ball ended the party trailed the stage coach like they were instructed to and found out the passengers were none other then the Grelliers. The party tried intervened but the Golder security successfully murdered Louis Grellier and the majority of his family, they escaped with their lives thanks to the city watch.

The next morning the party laid low to weather out the storm, believing that they were the targets of Golder led assassinations when they heard the workers strike had ended. They investigated and found out that was indeed true and that all the entire dock was in celebration mode and that the official announcement would be tomorrow. The PC’s parted the night away with Ilse Heye, Hov Borad, Theophil Garterfield, Kurt Becker and hundreds of other strike members in celebration. Upon exiting the pub the party felt unwell and shortly after they realised they had been poisoned, they were ambushed under the cover of darkness, Ilse succumbed to the poison, Kurt took a crossbow bolt to the chest and the rest of the party were beaten down by footpads. The last thing they saw before they blacked out was the figure of Ursel Forstner moving towards them…

A History of Violence - Session 5
Sins of the father....

The party awoke in a cell below the city of Altdorf there they learnt the reasoning behind Theophil Garterfield and why he betrayed the party to Hahn Golder. The party was forced to watch from the constraints of their cell as Mario Rosseto tortured a helpless Ilse Heye and watch as Ursel Forstner stabbed a beaten and bloody Ilse to finish her off. They next moved on to Lindenberg Shulze who had been in captivity since the beginning of the adventure. Here they learnt that Lindenberg was actually Otto von Clausen, a former business tycoon thought to be dead by Hahn Golder’s own hands.

Hahn attempted to kill Lindenberg, like he had done so many years ago, but was interrupted when a party of guardsmen led by Captain Hershel Sturmgahner and Hov Borad stormed the premises. Ursel, Hahn and Mario escaped but Theo was killed by Hov Borad in an act of vengeance.

The guardsmen took the injured party members and the comatose body of Ilse Heye (who had miraculously survived) to a nearby Shallyan ward to recover. Captain Sturmgahner devised a plan in which Hov Borad was to start a riot (caused by angry dock workers) and during the cover of the choas raid the Rosseto and Golder estates to finish them off. The party agreed to assist Hov Borad in raiding the Golder’s and leave Captain Sturmgahner to raid the Casa di Rosseto.

The party remembered the secret sewer entrance to the Golder estate from their last visit below Altdorf and continued down there, leaving Hov and the angry populace to storm the above entrance. The group encountered some Golder security guarding the secret hatch, they dispatched them with ease but found out the Hahn had already escaped from the sewers.

They pursued him with some brief assistance from Maggio Paddins and they confronted Hahn and his son Leonhard along with some guardsmen. The fight was brutal and the party only jsut made it out alive, unfortunately during the chaos Hahn and Leonhard managed to escape.

The party returned to the Shallyan ward to tend to their (quite severe) wounds and learnt the aftermath of the riots. Mario Rosseto managed to escape the raiding party but Mario’s daughter Sienna was killed along with his 2ic Emilio Maretti. During the Golder raid the rioters succumbed to their base instincts and killed Hahn Golders wife and his two 2 grandchildren. Hov Borad and the guardsmen managed to kill Gottleib Forstner (Hahns son-in-law) but in turn Ursel Forstner killed Hov and made her escape.

Lindenberg told the group that Ilse was in fact his daughter and that he was leaving the party to assist her in her recovery.
